Bradelei Lodge 9205 and the Derbyshire Provincial Grand Charity have collectively donated £500 to the Derwent Brass Band.

Pictured here are some of the happy band members after receiving the donation which will be used to purchase new instruments.

Bradelei Lodge meets in Belper, where the Derwent Brass Band is also based.

The combined efforts of Belper based Freemasons, Bradelei Lodge and the Provincial Grand Lodge of Derbyshire have resulted in this sizeable donation to Derwent Brass.

An application by the band’s Fundraising Officer Kevin Stewart was successful to help the band secure enough funds to purchase yet further assets during their 25th anniversary year. On this occasion the band were looking to further strength the percussion inventory with some high calibre snare drums.

Keith Leonard, Musical Director of the band said;

“Particularly in modern works, demands on the percussion team are high and the purchase of these high-end snares, alongside the existing talents within the section, puts additional clarity, precision and power at our disposal. In Derwent Brass the percussion is an integral part of the band, not an extra, and I’m delighted that we are able to continually improve and extend the range of instruments they have available.

Kevin Stewart, Fundraising Officer for the band commented:

The Freemasons exist not only to enjoy partnerships, meetings, and other events, but more importantly to support the local community through funds raised from within its own membership. We thank Bradelei Lodge for their kind donation and of course the Provincial Grand Lodge of Derbyshire for match-funding the sum. The combined efforts have enabled a substantial purchase which will be a quality asset to the band for years to come.”
